Getting Your Home Ready for Fall: Tips from Weatherables

Fall is the perfect time for getting both your yard and your home improvement projects completed! The cooler temperatures make it pleasant to work outside, but you may also feel like you’re up against the clock since colder temperatures could set in at any time and derail your projects. The best way to approach your fall to-do list is to make a list of your top priorities and then rank them in the order you want to complete them. Be sure to prioritize the weather dependent projects first. Once you start on an indoor project, there’s less chance you’ll get back outside to it before it’s too cold! We’re here to help suggest what the top items should be.

We’ve mentioned there’s a lot you can do, but that’s because one big problem people have is that they shut down too early. The slower growth of the plants and grass make you feel like you can relax a little, but it’s a key time of the year. Don’t stop watering entirely so soon, but you should stop when there’s a real chill in the air! Empty those pipes to avoid freezing and move the plants inside. The same goes for your grass; don’t stop cutting it! Cutting less is just fine.

If you have some large trees in your yard, you might be noticing some crunchy leaves under your feet. Make sure to rake them and avoid letting them pileup around your house or fence because that buildup could end up smothering the grass. While you’re out there, you might want to take the time to spray down your Weatherables fencing. It’s easy to do and will leave your fence looking like new again.

If you have a porch or deck, it’s also a good time of the year to freshen it up as you winterize it. Sweep off or wash the surface of the deck to clear off that summer’s worth of buildup. The best part about Weatherables vinyl railing is that unlike it’s wood counterpart, it’s durable and strong enough to withstand snow, ice and whatever else winter throws at it.

Before you know it, fall will be over and winter will have arrived! But, you’ll have prepared for it and your landscaping and home will be ready when the new start comes in spring.
