Posts, post caps, and concrete or Fast 2K are generally sold separately, so review the product page before ordering. Most picket fence panels and gate kits do not include posts. Selling posts separately allows you to order the correct number of line, corner, end, blank, and gate posts for your layout instead of paying for pieces you do not need. Use line posts between two panels, end posts where a run stops, corner posts where the fence changes direction, and reinforced gate posts beside an opening. A simple overhead sketch can help you mark each change in direction and count the correct post types. 

Spacing depends on the vinyl picket fence panel you select. Current Weatherables® styles include gaps of approximately 1.7, 2, 3, 3.6, or 3.7 inches, with pickets ranging from 1.5 to 3 inches wide. Check the specifications for the exact straight picket or decorative design, especially when spacing affects pets, children, or local code requirements.

Yes. Many picket fence systems can follow a slope using a stepped or racked installation, depending on the panel design and grade. Stepping keeps each panel level and creates staggered sections, while racking allows the rails and pickets to follow the ground more closely. The Classic Stepped picket fence cannot be racked, so consider the Plymouth Picket Fence if you need a style that can follow a slope.

Weatherables® recommends securing in-ground fence posts with concrete or an approved alternative for dependable strength and alignment. Standard installation guidance calls for 10-inch-diameter holes for 4-inch posts and 12-inch holes for 5-inch posts, although soil and code requirements may differ. Weatherables®’ general installation guidance recommends post holes approximately 30 to 36 inches deep, but the final depth depends on fence height, soil, frost line, wind exposure, and local code. Depending on your installation you will need posts, post caps, Fast2K concrete alternative, and basic installation tools. Additional materials may be required depending on your installation conditions.

Existing wood posts may work when they are straight, structurally sound, correctly spaced, and compatible with the panel’s rail locations. Inspect each post for rot, movement, cracking, and below-ground deterioration before attaching high-quality vinyl panels. Reusing weak or incorrectly spaced posts can shorten the life of the fence, so compare the layout with the product instructions before proceeding.

Yes. Many vinyl post sleeves are designed to fit over standard 4x4 wood posts, but the wood must be plumb, stable, and free from serious decay. Because this setup can require specific sizing and components, contact our team for a quote before ordering. 

Yes. All Weatherables® picket fence panels can be shortened for the final section of a run by cutting the top and bottom rails and adjusting the picket layout. Measure the opening twice and keep enough rail length to fit securely into the routed posts or mounting brackets. 

Some gate kits can be narrowed on site by cutting the horizontal rails before assembly. Confirm the allowable size range first because removing too much material may interfere with the sockets, brace, hinges, latch, or warranty coverage. If you're modifying a gate, it's also a good idea to review the gate hardware requirements before you begin. 

A fence panel can often be installed between existing posts when the opening, post size, and rail locations match the new system. Measure the clear distance at the top and bottom because older posts may lean or sit out of square. Mounting brackets or U-mounts may be needed when the existing posts are not routed for the selected panel. 

Gate kits generally include the gate panel components, sockets, hinges, latch, and assembly hardware identified on the product page. Posts are ordered separately, and larger openings may require reinforced gate posts or a brace to help prevent sagging. Additional gate sockets are available for repairs and custom projects. 

Yes. Purchase the correct fence posts for your gate, then add metal post inserts for reinforcement. Inserts are especially important on the hinge side, but Weatherables® recommends using them on both the hinge and latch posts.

The configuration depends on the specific gate product. A single gate uses one hinged leaf, while a double-drive gate uses two leaves that meet in the center and may include a drop rod. Check whether the listed width describes one leaf or the complete opening before ordering hinges, latches, posts, and related gate hardware. 

Many vinyl gate widths can be reduced before assembly by cutting the top rail, bottom rail, and any required intermediate rails evenly. The finished width must still leave proper clearance for hinges and the latch. For wider or frequently used gates, an adjustable gate brace can help reduce sagging over time. 

Some Weatherables® styles may be suitable for a pool fence, but compliance depends on the complete installed system and local requirements. Weatherables® does not recommend painting vinyl picket fencing. Paint preparation may require sanding or chemicals; dark colors can absorb excess heat, and applying paint will void the Weatherables® warranty. Choose an available factory color instead of painting so the material retains its original finish and UV protection.

Color availability depends on the selected design. Many vinyl picket fence styles are offered in white, tan, and khaki, while certain products or sizes may have fewer choices. White remains the traditional option for a classic white picket fence, but ordering a free vinyl sample lets you compare color and material thickness at home before purchasing. 

Weatherables® vinyl includes UV inhibitors that help limit discoloration from long-term sunlight exposure. Some gradual weathering may occur outdoors, but excessive fading may qualify for coverage under the applicable warranty terms. Review the vinyl fencing and railing warranty and submit the required registration within 30 days of receiving the product.
