Privacy Fence FAQ's

What is included with a privacy fence panel kit?

Our privacy fence panel kits include all rails, pickets/infill boards, U-channels (where applicable), and assembly components needed to build one fence panel. Posts, post caps, and concrete are sold separately unless specifically stated in the product description.

Are fence posts included?

Most privacy fence panel kits do not include posts. Posts are generally sold separately so customers can purchase the appropriate line, corner, end, or gate posts needed for their layout.

How do I know which posts I need?

The required posts depend on your fence layout. Line posts are used between panels, end posts are used at the beginning and end of a run, corner posts are used for directional changes, and gate posts are required for gate installations.

How much fence does one panel cover?

Most privacy fence panels cover approximately 8 feet of fence length when installed. Refer to the specific product specifications for exact dimensions.

Can I install a privacy fence myself?

Yes. All Weatherables privacy fence systems are designed for DIY installation.

Are installation instructions included?

Installation instructions are only available online and can be accessed through the product page or our installation resources section. Installation instructions are not included in the shipment.

Can privacy fence panels be installed on a slope?

Yes. Many privacy fence systems can be installed using either a stepped or racked installation method, depending on the product and site conditions. Please refer to the style overview on the website for details.

Can I install a privacy fence on concrete?

Yes. Privacy fence systems can be installed on concrete using surface-mount hardware or post mounting systems designed for concrete applications.

Do fence posts need to be set in concrete?

We recommend setting fence posts in concrete (using our Fast2K concrete alternative) for maximum strength, stability, and long-term performance. Refer to the installation instructions for depth and circumference requirements.

What materials are needed besides the fence kit?

Depending on your installation you will need posts, post caps, Fast2K concrete alternative, and basic installation tools. Additional materials may be required depending on your installation conditions.

Can privacy fence panels be cut to width?

Weatherables® privacy fence panels can be cut to accommodate shorter fence runs. Refer to the specific product's installation instructions for modification guidelines.

Can the fence be made shorter?

No. The posts are routed for specific dimensions.

Can I stack panels to make the fence taller?

We do not recommend stacking panels. We offer up to 8 foot tall privacy fence styles.

How much wind can a privacy fence withstand?

All of our vinyl fence panels, 6 ft. tall and less can withstand 110 MPH sustained winds and wind gusts up to 130 MPH.

Does vinyl fencing provide UV protection?

Yes. Our vinyl fencing is manufactured with UV inhibitors designed to help resist fading, discoloration, and weathering.

What is included with a gate kit?

Gate kits include the gate panel and installation hardware. You still need to separately order posts to hinge and latch your gates to.

Are gate posts included?

No. Gate posts need to be purchased separately and must be selected based on the gate size and application.

Can gate widths be modified?

Your gate can be modified on site before assembly by cutting down the rails for the width needed.

Can vinyl privacy fencing be painted?

We do not recommend painting vinyl fencing products. That will void your warranty.

What colors are available?

See your selected privacy fence style for available colors.

Will my fence fade over time?

Our vinyl fencing contains UV inhibitors that help minimize fading and maintain appearance for years. Your warranty does cover excessive fade over time. Please refer to your warranty for additional information.

Vinyl Privacy Fence Heights

Weatherables offers privacy fencing in heights ranging from 4' to 8', each serving unique purposes:

4' and 5' Fences

While shorter fences might seem counterintuitive for privacy, 4' and 5' heights serve unique and important purposes. These more modest fence heights are perfect for homeowners facing strict homeowners association (HOA) regulations or those seeking a less imposing boundary solution. Ideal scenarios for 4' to 5' fences include:

  • Urban or suburban lots with limited space
  • Front yard decorative boundaries
  • Areas with restrictive height ordinances
  • Defining garden spaces or property lines
  • Creating visual separation without completely blocking views

These shorter fences keep small children and pets contained while maintaining an open, welcoming feel. They're particularly useful in front yards or smaller side yards where complete privacy isn't the primary goal.

6' Fences

Standing at the most popular height, 6' privacy fences represent the standard for residential privacy solutions. This height strikes an ideal balance between complete seclusion and neighborhood aesthetics.

Key advantages of 6' fencing include:

  • Complete visual blockade from neighboring properties
  • Sufficient height to create a private outdoor living space
  • Compatibility with most residential zoning regulations
  • Seamless integration with typical suburban landscaping
  • Optimal protection for pools, outdoor entertainment areas, and personal spaces

Most homeowners find that 6' fencing meets their privacy needs without appearing fortress-like or overly aggressive. It provides a clean, professional look that enhances property value and creates a sense of personal sanctuary.

7' and 8' Fences

7' and 8' fences offer maximum privacy and safety for properties requiring extensive privacy or facing unique environmental challenges.

Recommended scenarios for taller fences include:

  • Rural or semi-rural properties with wildlife concerns
  • Homes located on slopes or with significant elevation differences
  • Areas with minimal natural screening from trees or terrain
  • Properties near busy roads or public spaces
  • Regions with substantial wildlife populations (deer, bears, coyotes)

These impressive fence heights create an almost impenetrable barrier, providing:

  • Enhanced security
  • Complete visual isolation
  • Significant noise reduction
  • Protection from wind and environmental elements
  • A sense of exclusive, private outdoor living

Important consideration: Always verify local zoning laws and HOA regulations before installing fences over 6' tall. Some municipalities have strict height restrictions that may limit your options.
